The Iowa Department of Revenue and other state agencies are modernizing technology and processes to better serve Iowa taxpayers. The end result of this four-year effort will provide taxpayers, businesses, and tax professionals with a new and secure portal, GovConnectIowa.
In the initial rollout, the Department of Revenue, the Iowa Lottery, Iowa Department of Inspections and Appeals, and the Iowa Alcoholic Beverages Division partnered to create GovConnectIowa. This shared online portal will streamline business registration by providing applications or licensing for each of these agencies in one convenient location.
Beginning in November, GovConnectIowa will provide user-friendly and self-service tools for business filers to register or renew certain business licenses and permits, file tax returns and reports, make payments, and communicate with state agencies involved.
Later rollouts in this multi-year project will simplify processes for corporate income taxpayers, individual income taxpayers, local government oversight and distributions, and more.
Iowa Department of Revenue Director Kraig Paulsen said he appreciates the unique partnership with other state agencies to improve and simplify services for Iowa businesses.
“It is exciting to work together with these state agencies to make it easier to do business in our great state,” Paulsen said. ”This is the start of a more simple and secure tax system in Iowa.”
