IDR Releases Updated State Tax Guidance: Grain Bins

During the 2019 Legislative Session, the General Assembly added a new exemption from sales and use tax under House File 779 for grain bins and grain bin materials, effective July 1, 2019. The Department previously announced the Sales & Use Tax Exemption: Grain Bins rulemaking had been adopted and filed. Additionally, the Department has developed guidance to explain this tax change:

IDR Releases Updated State Tax Guidance: Sales and Use Tax Changes

House File 2641 enacted several changes and clarifications to Iowa tax laws on topics of administration, income, sales, and property tax. This is intended to be a basic overview of the sales and use tax provisions of this Act. The Department will implement these changes through the administrative rulemaking process or by providing additional guidance as needed.

Iowa Government Working Group to meet August 19

The Government Working Group of the Governor’s Economic Recovery Advisory Board meeting has been rescheduled and will now be 8-10 a.m. on Wednesday, August 19. The group was scheduled to meet August 12. The public is invited to attend.

The Government Working Group is led by Co-Chairs Emily Schmitt, General Counsel of Sukup Manufacturing Co., and Barbara Sloniker, Executive Vice President at the Siouxland Chamber of Commerce. Additionally, Kraig Paulsen, Director of the Iowa Department of Revenue, serves as Working Group Director.

IDR Releases New State Tax Guidance: Iowa Nonconformity CARES Act of 2020

In December of 2019, President Trump signed the Taxpayer Certainty and Disaster Tax Relief Act of 2019 into law. This Act extends a number of expired federal tax provisions, many retroactively to tax years 2018 and 2019. Iowa has not conformed with any of these federal tax changes to the extent they apply to tax years beginning prior to January 1, 2020.
